Fort Detrick Biodefense Containment Lab Update: next meeting April 19th.

Thanks to all of you who turned out for last Tuesday’s containment lab public forum at city hall. A big thanks to all who spoke so well and so compellingly about your concerns and what you want to see the containment lab committee tackle. As a number of you said, it is hard to keep coming to these meetings. But what you all said was extremely important. It was important that this new community advisory committee hear directly from you. It was also important that Senators Mikulski and Cardin’s representatives heard what you have to say, as well as elected officials from the city who were present and other municipal leaders.

We have our work cut out for us. Your support is important. It is not going to be easy to get information from the labs….but we are committed to staying on this. We’re going through your comments and written submissions to help shape our work.

We meet again on Tuesday April 19th.

We’ll be talking about: – the forum, – the current NRC study underway for the new animal testing lab, – the private labs in Frederick county, – plans to get information about the other National Interagency Biodefense Campus labs, and – we will hear a report-out from Col Skorvak, USAMRIID on the status of the 2010 NRC study recommendations. Thanks again, Beth Willis
